ECOMIX® — Integrated Water Treatment Systems

ECOMIX® integrated water treatment systems are an optimal solution for treating water with high concentrations of hardness salts, iron compounds, ammonium, manganese, and organic contaminants. The filtration process is carried out in a single treatment stage, which fundamentally distinguishes this system from conventional multi-stage solutions.

 System Configuration

The system is designed as a single-column unit made of high-strength, corrosion-resistant plastic. It is equipped with an automatic control valve manufactured by Clack Corp. (USA), which significantly simplifies operation and maintenance. The system package also includes a brine tank, required for efficient and timely regeneration.

What Does an ECOMIX® Integrated Water Treatment System Remove?

ECOMIX® systems demonstrate stable operating performance and provide simultaneous removal of multiple contaminants, even in water with high hardness and a high level of pollution:

  1. Iron
    The maximum allowable iron concentration in the influent water should not exceed 15 mg/L.
  2. Hardness
    The system effectively treats water with total hardness of up to 15 mg-eq/L.
  3. Manganese
    Efficient removal of manganese at concentrations of up to 3 mg/L.
  4. Oxidizability (organic matter)
    The system significantly reduces natural organic compounds. The maximum permissible oxidizability of the source water is 20 mg O₂/L.
  5. Ammonium
    The maximum allowable ammonium concentration in the water is 4 mg/L.

How Does the ECOMIX® Integrated Water Treatment System Operate?

The system uses a blend of five synthetic and natural components that perform ion-exchange and sorption functions. These components differ in their mechanisms of action (sorption or filtration), as well as in density and particle size distribution.

During manufacturing, the ECOMIX® filtration components are mixed in proportions defined by the formulation. During operation, after the first regeneration cycle, the components naturally stratify into layers. This stratification occurs in a sequence that is optimized for the rapid and efficient removal of contaminants from the water.

The regeneration stages of the ECOMIX® integrated water treatment system are similar to those of a conventional water softener:

  • backwash;
  • brine rinse;
  • fast rinse.

 Переваги системи комплексного очищення води ECOMIX® над звичайною системою очищення The water treatment system provides significant operational and economic advantages:

  • the filtration system saves approximately 50% of installation space — 0.37 m² compared to 0.8 m² required for a standard system;
  • salt consumption is reduced by 29% compared to conventional systems;
  • backwash water discharge is reduced by 89% compared to alternative solutions;
  • operating costs are 61% lower.

Special sorbents are used to reduce water oxidizability. For this purpose, safe and highly efficient granular materials are applied.

If the water contains a high iron concentration (above 10 mg/L) and exhibits high turbidity, it is recommended to install a preliminary mechanical cartridge filter for rapid removal of suspended solids or a dedicated iron removal system prior to the ECOMIX® unit.

Iron and Manganese Removal

The FerroSorb sorbent, included in the ECOMIX® filter media, effectively removes iron and manganese compounds from the water.

The stages of iron removal are as follows: adsorption → oxidation → formation of an active layer → autocatalytic oxidation.

Iron and manganese compounds are removed from the vessel due to friction of the FerroSorb grain surfaces during backwashing.

ECOMIX® Integrated Water Treatment System Variants

Integrated water treatment systems are classified into several types depending on water composition and purification requirements. A key factor in selection is the ratio of filtration components, which determines the functions performed by the system, such as:

  • nitrate removal;
  • manganese removal;
  • combined iron removal and water softening.

Most Common and Widely Used ECOMIX® Systems

ECOMIX A
This is an effective filtration material that significantly reduces water hardness and removes manganese, iron, ammonium, and aluminum. Its performance is independent of anionic water composition, pH level, and chlorine content. An additional advantage is the reduction of organic compounds and hydrogen sulfide concentrations by up to 50%.

ECOMIX C
In addition to the characteristics of ECOMIX A, this type provides enhanced removal of organic compounds, even when initial water oxidizability reaches 20 mg O₂/L. It is best suited for applications where organic matter removal is the primary objective.

Specific Operating Conditions for ECOMIX® Systems

  • pH range: 5–9;
  • system performance is not affected by anionic water composition or hydrogen sulfide content;
  • active chlorine ≤ 1 mg/L;
  • total dissolved solids ≤ 4,000 mg/L.

Technical Characteristics of ECOMIX® Systems

Regardless of the type, the system provides a high filtration rate of 20–25 m/h, with a backwash rate of 10–15 m/h. This allows its use in large industrial facilities where consistently high water quality is required.

ECOMIX® systems do not alter the pH of the treated water.

Before ordering an ECOMIX® integrated water treatment system, it is recommended to perform a water analysis. Our specialists will help you select the appropriate equipment, carry out a free water analysis in our in-house laboratory if required, install the system, and provide ongoing support to ensure reliable and long-term operation of the equipment.
