Kingspan Biodisc – a unique technology on the Ukrainian market from ZIKO
Reliable wastewater treatment equipment designed specifically for business. ZIKO is the exclusive representative of Kingspan Water & Energy in Ukraine.
Kingspan has over 60 years of experience in the development and manufacture of effective and reliable commercial wastewater treatment systems, which are supplied worldwide.
The Kingspan BioDisc® commercial wastewater treatment plant uses a rotary biological treatment process. Its proven efficiency ensures consistently high performance and uninterrupted wastewater treatment throughout the entire service life of the product.

Each BioDisc® commercial wastewater treatment plant is characterised by a compact structure that allows the product to be adapted to a wide range of applications and treatment quality requirements. BioDisc® has been fully developed for the market, in accordance with international standards such as EN 12566-3 (up to 50 people) and EN 12255 (more than 50 people).
The Kingspan product range includes well-known rotary type technology, a compact, robust design that has been designed for many years of use. Our patented wastewater dosing systems ensure optimum performance when it comes to introducing hydraulic balance.
The wastewater dosing system provides the highest efficiency by compensating for the variable amount of wastewater injected. This ensures that wastewater flows through the device at a constant, controlled speed and the activated sludge formed on the discs operates in optimal, stable conditions. This solution allows for maximum treatment efficiency.

BioDisc® Commercial Wastewater Treatment Systems for up to 300 People
The Rotary Biological Treatment (RBC) system is the most important element of every BioDisc®1 treatment plant. It is based on the technology of wastewater treatment without additional air injection into the system. The formed activated sludge grows on the surface of the biodiscs. Activated sludge is a naturally occurring micro-organisms that consume dirt from wastewater, thereby purifying the wastewater. The biodiscs on the shaft are half immersed in the wastewater, the shaft makes 2 rpm, thus the activated sludge is half the time immersed in the wastewater – where it feeds, and half the time in the air – where it breathes. The whole process consists of four steps, described below.

Primary clarifier
This is the initial stage of treatment, which consists in retaining the largest solid impurities for their subsequent periodic removal. The primary clarifier, in combination with the wastewater dosing system, also functions as a balance tank.
First stage of biological treatment
The liquid, together with small solid impurities, enters the first stage of biological treatment.
The biological film formed on the rotating contactor decomposes the contaminants in the wastewater. The wastewater dosing system ensures a stable flow.
Second stage of biological treatment
The pre-treated wastewater enters the second zone of the rotating contactors, where it is further purified. This process ensures that the entire surface of the rotating discs is used in full, maximizing productivity.
Secondary clarifier
Excess biofilm flows by gravity from the contactor surface into the secondary clarifier, where it accumulates at the bottom as sludge. The treated wastewater is discharged to the drain or the environment. The pump recirculates the excess biofilm back to the primary clarifier for retreatment. The sludge pump also removes suspended solids, which contributes to more efficient operation of the secondary clarifier.

BioDisc® Commercial Wastewater Treatment Plants for over 250 residents.
For commercial applications with higher wastewater flows, Kingspan has developed a modular RBC bioreactor system. It comprises bioreactors using rotary biological contactor technology with separate primary and secondary clarifiers.
The number of bioreactors and clarifiers can be increased, allowing for flexible network expansion. Each bioreactor supplied is designed to handle wastewater from 250 residents. The elements can be combined in almost any way to create a complete wastewater treatment system. For greater system flexibility, the amount of wastewater entering each boreactor can be gradually increased.
Dimensions of the RBC rotary biological contactor: 6.7 m (length) x 2.2 m (width) x 2.4 m (height).
The size of the primary and secondary clarifiers may vary depending on the investor’s requirements for the system’s cleaning efficiency.
RBC Modular Bioreactor System
The rotating biological contactor contains bioreactors supplied in modules effective for 250 inhabitants (equivalent number of inhabitants).
Their unique design is based on a container system for easy transportation.
The modularity of the design allows the biological contactors to be used even in the most difficult conditions.

Modular layout

Wastewater dosing system
The flow control process ensures a stable flow of wastewater to the next treatment stages. Buckets with a specified volume transport the untreated wastewater through individual biozones, which allows for the stabilization of existing processes. The buckets are equipped with an independent drive, and due to this they rotate at a different speed than the shaft.
Modular elements of the rotary contactors
The rotary contactor in the BioDisc® has a diameter of 2 m. It consists of wedge-shaped elements that form a rotary contactor. One component can be removed from the shaft for maintenance, inspection or replacement. Thanks to this solution, the contactor can be replaced without having to lift the shaft.
Shaft bearings
The shaft of the BioDisc® bioreactors is supported by bearings at both ends. They are equipped with self-lubricating cartridges for permanent lubrication. To perform maintenance on both bearings, separate covers must be removed.
There is no need to remove the main covers, which makes maintenance easier.
Additional frame
The RBC bioreactor can be lifted from the side using a forklift. The pipes that can be placed on the forks are part of the additional steel frame. The unit can also be lifted from both ends using extended forks. The frame is equipped with four lifting clamps, and buckles are attached to each element of the device.
